The collection comprises 1150 works of visual and applied arts, ranging in date from around 1900 to today. The main focus of the collection is on regional and national art, with an emphasis on the period after 1970. The collection is based on donations from Arts Council Norway (1988-2006) and the Museum’s own purchases, especially from its own exhibitions (1987 to today). This is also a way for the Museum to document its own activities throughout the years. Sogn og Fjordane Kunstmuseum has an artistic council that evaluates purchases, gifts and loans.

Sogn og Fjordane Kunstmuseum presents exhibitions about regional art history from around 1900 onwards, contemporary art and provides information about artists. We produce permanent exhibitions featuring art from all the five collections, of around 4500 artworks, temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and educational activities for schools.

A café and a shop selling art and books can also be found in the museum.
